The Sora 2 Videos Taking Over Social Media You Have to See

The Sora 2 Videos Taking Over Social Media You Have to See

OpenAI's new text-to-video model, Sora, has been trending following the release of its latest version, Sora 2, and a companion social video app . The app quickly surged to the number three spot on Apple's App Store, just behind TikTok and Instagram.

Sora 2 is an upgraded version of OpenAI's video generation model that is more physically accurate and realistic than previous systems. The new model can generate videos up to 10 minutes long with improved motion consistency and a better understanding of complex scenes.

The new Sora app, powered by Sora 2, allows users to create and share AI-generated videos. One of its key features is the ability to create AI avatars of oneself, called "cameos," which can be inserted into any imagined scene.

Sam Altman's Involvement and Viral Videos

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been a central figure in the rollout of Sora. He has promoted the app and his likeness has been used in numerous viral videos created by users . Altman consented to the use of his likeness on the platform. Some of the viral videos include an AI-generated Sam Altman shoplifting GPUs and another where he is depicted as a 2000s-era rapper . These hyper-realistic videos have showcased the power of Sora 2 and contributed to its trending status .

Controversies and Responses

The release of Sora has not been without controversy. The ease with which realistic videos can be created has raised concerns about the potential for misinformation and deepfakes . Early users were able to create videos using copyrighted material, sparking a debate about intellectual property rights .

In response to the backlash, Sam Altman announced that OpenAI would give rights holders more granular control over the use of their intellectual property. He also suggested a potential revenue-sharing model for rights holders whose characters are used in videos . OpenAI has stated that Sora has safety features to prevent the generation of harmful content, including prompt filtering and a ban on impersonation
